Attempted set up of a Conference Room.

Directions say to wait until a "Conference" directory is created.
A message would be sent when this was done.
I have been waiting for several days now and still have not received a message nor has the "Conference" directory been created.

Hmm. I have received a back copy of the confirmation email on Sunday, 27 May 2001 01:44:11 -0700: "Task performed by the Brain!".

And when I look into your domain with WS_FTTP95 Pro I can see that the Conference Room has been created - you just did rename and "decorate" it to fit your site better. A virgin Conference Room will look like this at http://www.DomainExample.com/welcome.html.

Would you like me to test the Conference Room life with you?

I made a couple of entries in the demo.
Attempted to logon to the domain to see if you were seeing. I only see board.html.
Also tried to logon to the board but it is not excepting my e-mail address. Message says I am not authorized.
According to the directions I was supposed to create a file called "members" and I have but it is not working.

At DomainExample.com or on your domain?

This is what I see too and this is because you have renamed it from "welcome.html" to "board.html" but you can also see that it is a "shared folder", right?

Because you have made it a "closed" Conference Room.

My friend Peter just came so we will go swimming now but I will try to dig for a tutorial for you once we are back, ok?

entries were at your example.
I can't get into the one I created.

yes I named it "board" instead of "welcome".
If the directions had been more explicit, it would have said that if the name were changed then "all bets were off" and the directory would be called whatever I named it.
Any how! The directions were followed.
Maybe it's time to rewrite the directions for those of us that expect it to work when we do it according to the directions.

I must apologize for previous message that after looking at it seemed to be a tad unfriendly.
I have been trying to get things working since the 28th and it seems the only thing I have accomplished is to get two userid working with mail forwarding and a couple of logs activated.
Everything else has failed.
Yes a tutorial would be great, not only for Conference rooms but for "autobot and the Brain" in general.
I have activated Automail 3 times and seen the .forward message 3 times but have yet to receive a message other then "Delivery Notification: Delivery has Failed"

Hi again! :)

The members file would be placed in /www/htdocs/conference/horsesintx.org. So you will have to use a ftp software such as WS_FTP Pro as an example and hit the green corner arrow several times until you "land" in the heart of our server machine. Place the member file "member" with no extension like you did it in /www/htdocs/conference/horsesintx.org. I have done this now already for you - please test the conference room to see if this is working now.

Concerning tutorials I have to admit that I am not so sure I can explain things better than the folks from Colossus since English is not my native language - I learned it at age 31 which is pretty old to still jot it down right I guess... :(

I am using WS_FTP Pro 6.x.
I must say you are seeing something totally different than I am.
I do not see "/htdocs". "htdocs" shows up if I use PerlDiver but does not when viewing through WS_FTP Pro
I do not see "/conference/".

What I see is "/www/board.html"

I also do not see a "member" file called "member".
What I see is "/www/members" which was updated by me yesterday 02/06/01

You mention adding a "member" file.
The files that I see that are new from today are two that I added/updated previously before the site went down.
It appears you have access to a totally different place then I do.

I did however check and was able to enter the Conference area but I suspect we will run into the same access problem when and if I need to change members.

And it doesn't have a green arrow or some other symbol to travel directories up?

You will need to "dive" into the heart of the web server to see it... ;)

"/htdocs" is not in the ftp directory.

Try to travel into the heart of the server... ;)

Because you are looking at the ftp folder.

But I took it from your ftp folder and placed it in the correct folder.

> What I see is "/www/members" which was

This is the file I took - "www" is a mirror directory of "ftp".

> You mention adding a "member" file.

Mayby I should have said "copied/downloaded onto my lab top and uploading it again into the correct folder" instead of adding?

> The files that I see that are new from

As I emailed you - it wasn't down for me in California.

And I never delete any files from clients - at the most I rename files to orig_something.html or old_something.html as an example to fix things if needed.

I doubt that since I used your log-in info to do it.

Please try again - see above... ;)

and he said "let there be light"

OK found out there are two "www" directories!

one is "www", the other is "WWW".

Finally went in deep enough to discover the difference.

I understand now.
Thanks so much for your patience.
